Oakland County Attorneys For Drug Crimes

Drug Crimes

In Michigan, drug crimes are a serious offense. As such, drug crime convictions carry severe penalties. Aside from the significant penalties, which include steep fines and lengthy imprisonment, the stigma associated with such a crime is devastating and can carry life-long consequences.

Even if a person pays their debt to society by paying the fines and/or completing their prison sentence, he or she will face many life-long obstacles as a result of the drug conviction. This can include lost employment opportunities as a result of failed background checks, revoked professional licenses, being ineligible for housing (renting or securing a loan for a home), and child custody issues.

Defenses

Due to the lasting impact of drug convictions, you will need an aggressive and experienced attorney on your side. Ray Law provides rigorous legal defense, and will fight to mitigate the impact of the drug charge.

Ray Law will expose the weakness of the prosecution’s case. Such weaknesses can include illegally obtained evidence, or improper policing.

Immigration Impact

If you are charged with a crime, and are not a U.S. Citizen, the criminal charge alone may negatively impact your immigration status and/or your ability to apply for nonimmigrant and/or immigrant status.

Under immigration law, a drug or controlled substance offense or guilty plea, itself, can subject a person to deportation proceedings. Additionally, if any criminal matter is expunged or dismissed, police report(s) and court disposition will always be required, regardless of the age of the offense.

A drug offense should always be taken seriously, no matter what the offense. If not handled properly, a drug offense can significantly negatively impact your life.
